  • Centre for Sustainable Development was established as an advanced research centre at K.J. Somaiya Institute of Management Studies and Research in the year 2012. The broad objective of the centre is to promote and conduct research in the inter-disciplinary areas related to sustainable development.
  • The centre’s focus areas are: energy management and policy, environment and climate change, transportation and urbanization, and poverty and development studies.


To conduct and promote research in the inter-disciplinary areas of sustainable development

To collaborate and interact with researchers within and outside the institute working in similar areas

To undertake research projects and consultancy assignments and liasoning with government, industries, and other stakeholders to promote sustainable development


To disseminate finding through classroom lectures, workshops, and conferences

Research Area

Prof. Srijit Mishra, Dr. HSK Nathan and Dr. Lakshmikanth Hari: Analysing Poverty Change in India: Decomposition, Inclusiveness and Multidimensional Nutritional Deprivation, sponsored by Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR), New Delhi.
