LIFE AT SIMSR

Women's  DEVELOPMENT CELL

Women’s Development Cell @ KJ SIMSR is a vibrant and incessantly active collaboration of students, faculty, and staff; endeavoring to create a more inclusive, tolerant and gender sensitized community within campus as well as in society. As said by Chantal Partaian, Nasawiya, Lebonon - “I am a feminist because I believe in social change, equality and making society and the world a more equal place.”

Gender equality and empowerment of women have for long, remained an integral part of development policies and programmes especially for developing nations like India. Deemed as a mandatory requirement by the Government of India, UGC, and Human Rights; it is both a human right and development goal. Understanding and implementing gender inclusivity secure a significant place in higher education. We, at WDC not only recognize the importance of these development goals but also aim at broadening the dimensions within which these goals are perceived.

The WDC has been helping the institute build brand value to it and stand out as an entity for women’s welfare, from Somaiya Vidyavihar. We are here to create, maintain, and protect SIMSR's women and enable in sensitizing the importance of gender inclusivity in order to enhance it’s prestige.

Our year-long programmes and events primarily aim at creating awareness about issues still prevailing in our society; like gender sensitization, women’s rights, gender equality, Child sexual abuse, Girl Child education, NGO & orphanage visits, to name a few, and we are constantly endeavoring towards improving them. For all of the above and for redressal, we have dedicated members who are easily approachable and can be contacted personally, or through mail id, Facebook page and our website for redressal.
