Q. Is the programme approved by AICTE?
Ans. Yes, the programme is approved by AICTE ( All India Council for Technical Education ).
Q. What are the admission criteria for two year full time PGDM Programme?
Ans. Basic criteria: The candidate must hold a Bachelor’s degree of minimum 3 years duration with minimum 50% marks, of any of the Universities incorporated by an Act of Central or State Legislature in India or other Educational Institutions established by an Act of Parliament or declared to be deemed as a University under section 3 of UGC Act 1956 or possess an equivalent qualification recognized by the Ministry of HRD, Govt. of India/AIU. Candidates appearing for the final year degree examination in the year 2010 can also apply subject to furnishing the proof of graduation on or by 31st July, 2010, failing which the students will forfeit their admission.
Q. Is the application form for PGDM, PGDM ( IB ) & PGDM-RM programmes same ?
Ans. No. The students are required to buy & fill in separate forms for the PGDM & PGDM ( IB ) and PGDM (RM) programmes and separate fee is payable for each programme.. The form is available online at http://simsr.somaiya.edu. Payment of fees can be done through a demand draft or online using credit card.
Q. What is the selection process?
Ans. Students have to appear for the Somaiya Entrance Test (SET) that is conducted by the Institute for the PGDM (RM) programme, followed by Group Discussion / Personal Interview / Written Communication Test. The Written Communication Test comprises of essay writing on any contemporary topic. Suitable weightage is given to past Academic record and relevant work experience.
The entire selection process is held in Mumbai. The SET/GD/PI and Written Communication Test will be held in the month of April 2010 in Mumbai at the Somaiya Campus at Vidyavihar. Management reserves the right to add venues for SET/GD/PI/WRITTEN COMMUNICATION TEST, based on the number of applicants in a particular region. If there is a change, the candidates will be informed accordingly. The selected candidates will be informed by email / post of their final selection and the results will be posted on the website of the institute.
Final selection is based on SET + Group Discussion + Personal Interview + Academic Performance + Work Experience + Written Communication Test.
Q. What are the specializations offered for the PGDM (RM) Programme?
Ans. There is no further specialization that is offered in the light of the fact that Retail Management is a specialized course by itself.
Q. Is there any placement assistance provided?
Ans. Yes, placement assistance is provided to the students. A full fledged Placement Committee consisting of students, faculty and headed by a placement coordinator helps in the placement of the students and industry interface. SIMSR’s placement record has been excellent since its inception in top organizations with good offers made to many students. A good number of companies visited the campus for final placement for the PGDM-RM programme for the Batch 2007-09.
Q. How to apply to SIMSR?
Ans. To apply to SIMSR for the two year full time PGDM (RM) Programme, the prospective candidates are required to apply to SIMSR on a separate online application form which is available on the SIMSR website http://simsr.somaiya.edu
Q. What is the cost of the form for SIMSR?
Ans. Rs.1550/- by Demand Draft (DD) in favor of “K.J. Somaiya Institute of Management Studies & Research” payable at Mumbai OR Receipt of Learning Centers ( IMS / Career Forum / Career Launcher / Professional Tutorials ) OR Online payment by credit card.
Q. Can final year graduation students apply?
Ans. Yes, candidates appearing for the final year degree examination in the year 2010 can also apply subject to furnishing the proof of graduation by 31st July, 2010.
Q. Is there any hostel facility available?
Ans. Yes, the hostel facilities are available for both boys and girls. It is compulsory for all the PGDM (RM) students to stay in the hostel as it a fully residential programme.
Q. Do students need to clear any medical test?
Ans. After admission, all the students have to appear for compulsory medical test.
Q. Is laptop compulsory and will SIMSR provide laptops in the fees?
Ans. The Institute offers the computer facilities at its well equipped computer lab. However it is desirable that students have their own laptop or desktop. The Institute does not provide for laptops as part of the fees.
Q. Is there any Induction Programme for the students?
Ans. SIMSR has a compulsory Induction Programme of two weeks at the starting of the course to familiarize students with basic management subjects, especially Data Models, Accounts and Economics.
Q. Is there any age limit to apply?
Ans. No. However, students below 30 years of age are preferred.
Q. Is there a Bank Loan assistance provided?
Ans. Yes, SIMSR provides the necessary documents and other details required by the bank for obtaining the Educational Loan.
Q. What is the total intake of the programme?
Ans. There is an intake of 60 seats for PGDM-RM programme.
Q. Is the programme accredited by any agency.
Ans. The programme can not be accredited as two batches have not passed, which is a precondition for accreditation. However the PGDM and MMS programmes which are older are accredited by National Board of Accreditation (NBA) for 5 years.
