HUMAN EQUATIONS 2007

 

The 21st Century has brought along immense opportunities, but with an added pinch of competition and challenges for the management world today. To get an insight and be enlightened, the theme of HUMAN EQUATIONS 2007 was 21st Century Resource– Unleash Your Ideas…………

 

The event took off with inauguration by the chief guest Mr. S. Mohan (Exe. Dir HRD – BPCL), Director General Mr. Narsimham, Director Prof S. Ghai and Commander Sharma with the lighting of the lamp. Followed by an excellent presentation by Mr. S. Mohan who shared his experiences and insights and enlightened us all while speaking on the critical problem of attrition faced by HR today, core responsibilities and secondary responsibilities in a job. He talked about the scenario in the past vis a vis the current situation and the traits of the present generation.

 

This led to the next part of the event which constituted the PANEL DISCUSSION participated by Mr. Raj Dubey, Sr.Mgr HR IOCL, Mr. P Vijayan, VP Hr MGDL, Mr. Salil Raghavan, DGM HR GESC, Ms. Swati, DGM Global Campus Recruitment, ICICI. The Panel Discussion included a formal presentation from each of the participants followed by a question round which led to a healthy discussion. It was our Director General Prof. Narsimham who moderated the Panel discussion.

 

Mr. Raj Dubey presented first and he spoke of the “Leadership Mirroring Exercise” that his organization is currently practicing. He started with an interesting live example he commented that HR has to become the custodian of Human Resources.

 

Next was Mr. P. Vijaya, who started with a question, “What has work meant to most of us?” With his interesting presentation with a pinch of humour he instantly connected with the audience. He elaborated on certain issues and spoke on how connectivity technology makes it almost impossible to clearly demarcate where work starts and where it ends.

 

Mr. Salil Raghavan was the next to carry the discussion forward from here and he spoke on what the current trends are that will make world of 2020. He then discussed on Consumer Landscape, shifts in centers of economic activity, ageing population and also discussed the Charles Handy Model.

 

Last but not the least to carry the discussion forward was Ms. Swati. Sharing her experience from personal life she discussed how the industry is joining hands with educational institutes to meet corporate requirements and how all of us look for significance and meaning in what we do. So, it is important to create Significance and Meaning at work.

 

The afternoon session constituted the competitions, beginning with STICKY WICKET a competition that catered to the question that has been encircling in our minds too, “Why is the Indian Cricket Team not able to make WINNING a habit??” Judged by Mr. Deven Pandya and our own professors Ms. S. Karve and Ms. Radha Iyer. Each of the 4 groups put up their HR ideas and strategies and explained their proposition to help motivate and re-organize the Indian cricket team. Second team, “ZAV Consultants”, as they projected themselves, being the runners up, the match was won by Team 1 with players Amruta, Premlaksmi and Nidhi. But it was Mr. Pandya, who shared his insights and with his jovialness just stole the show.

 

The day ended with CONUNDRUM The Quiz. Mr. Sandeep Rajpurohit an Alumnus of the year 2007 who himself brought laurels to SIMSR during his stay here and performed outstandingly in every competition he took part in, was the Quiz Master. With enthusiastic participation from the audience the Quiz was a hit over all its 4 rounds.

 

At the end of the day, it was our Director Prof. S. C. Ghai, who was most impressed by this year’s Human Equation and shared his thoughts and suggestions before calling it a day.
